Kid's Activities / Kadima & USY

CBS-CS seeks to transmit a love of Judaism to its children through enjoyable and meaningful activities, and to establish a sense of community among their families.

Our Oys and Joys group (families with children under five) meets monthly to play and joyfully explore Judaism.

Our award-winning youth groups, Kadima (5th - 8th grade) and Achla USY (9th-12th grade) engage pre-teens and teens in peer-led social and educational activities, including overnights, regional conventions, and community service projects. Both our Kadima and Achla USY chapters are part of United Synagogue Youth (USY), the youth group arm of the Conservative movement.

After high school, CBS-CS keeps post-high school young adults connected to Jewish life with holiday mailings throughout the year.

Sisterhood

The CBS-CS Sisterhood includes women of all ages and interests. The Sisterhood provides funds for synagogue activities, assists youth through camperships, oversees our kosher kitchen, and sponsors a wide range of programs throughout the year.

For new babies in the congregation, Sisterhood plants a tree in Israel in honor of the new baby and provides a Shabbat dinner for the growing family.

Intergenerational

We offer many opportunities to gather as a community.

Monthly Shabbat dinners as well as celebrations on Sukkot, Hanukkah, Purim, Shavuot, the Tu B’shevat Seder and Chocolate Seder include fun, food, and activities for all ages.

Members also look forward to our Back to Shul BBQ, apple-picking, ice skating, Joint Thanksgiving with Pebble Hill Presbyterian, and Mitzvah Day in honor of MLK Jr.

Additionally, the congregation supports many social groups including, The Chosen Meeple Gaming Group, book clubs, and more!

Hazak (55+)

CBS-CS’ Hazak chapter provides a variety of activities with Jewish themes in the areas of entertainment, education and culture, as well as the opportunity to socialize for adults ages 55 and over.

Pastoral Support and Life Cycle

Rabbi David Kunin sees the synagogue as an entry point into Jewish life for everyone and seeks to establish meaningful relationships with, and between, members of the congregation.

Social Action

CBS-CS is an active member of the Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (or ACTS), Interfaith Works and COJO (Community Of Jewish Organizations).
